A new website launched today by the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C., aims to engage every sector of our societies in the celebration of the 160th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Italy and the United States. “italyus160.org” is going live on Italian Unification Day, to commemorate the longstanding and vital friendship between our two Countries and our two Peoples. The website will provide visitors with details of the many events and activities marking the celebration, which is being coordinated under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

“Our solid democracies are rooted in common values, and our societies are enriched thanks to a constant exchange in many sectors: from culture to science, from innovation to technology,” said the Italian Ambassador to the US, Armando Varricchio, in launching the new website. “This year, the Embassy of Italy, in partnership with our network of consulates, Italian Cultural Institutes, Italian Trade Agency offices, and together with the protagonists of our ‘Sistema Italia’ in the US, will promote a rich calendar of activities to celebrate this important anniversary.” Ambassador Varricchio makes a point of highlighting the role of “our vibrant communities in strengthening a relationship they have themselves made special.”

The program of events includes a high-profile political conference and an economic-business forum; concerts, exhibits, and events dedicated to innovation and Artificial Intelligence; activities for the Italian-American community and film festivals; events dedicated to our collaboration in space diplomacy and other key sectors like agro-food, fashion, and mechanical instruments; a focus also on the new generation and students and a particular attention to issues like climate change and the development of new green energy sources; the protection of our archeological heritage and the promotion of young scientists working on the most advanced technologies. The “Guestbook” page will include messages from Italian, American, and Italian-American celebrities and notable figures, on the importance of relations between Italy and the United States. The “Discover Italy” page will offer a window on the beauty of Italy, curated by the Italian National Tourist Board (ENIT).

The launch of the website will be sweetened by the soundtrack of a great musical tradition that reinforces this unique relationship. Today, Italian Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, Artistic Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will conduct a concert with a broad program – from Verdi, Respighi, and Maderna, to Aaron Copland – that will be streamed in April.

Communications activities and events are organized by the Embassy with the contribution of the following sponsors:
