Memorandum of Understanding with the Michigan Department of Education

On January 20, 2017, Consul Maria Luisa Lapresa signed a memorandum of understanding with the State of Michigan Department of Education to support the teaching of the Italian language in the public schools of the State. In particular, the goal of the agreement, signed by the State Superintendent Brian J. Whiston and Krista Ried of the Office of Professional Preparation Services, is to facilitate Michigan district schools’ hiring of Italian teachers who have already been certified in Italy. The memorandum of understanding is the result of negotiations and meetings between the Department of Education, the Osservatorio della Lingua Italiana and Consul Lapresa.

Former State Representative Anthony Forlini, the President of the Michigan Chapter of the Dante Alighieri Society Lia Adelfi, Dr. Paolo Nervo and Prof. Franco Iaderosa, respectively President and Director of Education of the NOI Foundation, were also present at the signing of the memorandum.
