On February 5, 2016, Consul Maria Luisa Lapresa met with the Mayor of Adrian, MI, Jim Berryman, and the Assistant Superintendent, Kyle Griffith, to plan the ceremony commemorating the victims of the November 27, 1901 train wreck. The accident caused an unprecise number of victims. Among them, according to the available sources of the time, there were at least 80 Italian citizens, recently arrived in the United States, who were going to the Colorado mines. The commemoration, which will include a religious ceremony and the unveiling of a memorial monument, will take place on September 24, 2016.
