Lecture by Prof. Gary Radke, Consulting Curator and Exhibition Organizer High Museum og Art, Atlanta Friday, February 6th, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. or Sunday, February 8th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. The Renaissance was famous for its feuds and friendships. Learn about the key moments of conflict and cooperation that led to the creation of the era’s most famous paintings and sculpture. Appreciate how Luca della Robbia’s splendid marble panels for the Cantoria of Florence Cathedral, showcased in the DIA’s Make a Joyful Noise exhibition, exemplify this spirit. The world’s most important collection of monumental sculpture from early Renaissance Italy is in the Florence Cathedral Museum (Museo dell’Opera del Duomo), founded in 1891 and now undergoing a dramatic expansion. In the context of the DIA’s Make a Joyful Noise exhibition, Verdon will discuss several of the collection’s best known masterpieces, including Ghiberti’s bronze doors, Luca della Robbia’s Cantoria and Michelangelo’s Pietà, and illustrate the new installation, planned to open in late 2015.
