{"id":4023,"date":"2026-08-07T14:15:50","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T18:15:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consdetroit.esteri.it\/?page_id=4023"},"modified":"2026-08-07T14:15:50","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T18:15:50","slug":"authentication-of-diploma-and-transcripts","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consdetroit.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/student-office\/recognition-of-american-educational-credentials-in-italy\/authentication-of-diploma-and-transcripts\/","title":{"rendered":"Authentication of Diploma and Transcripts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Step 1 \u2013 Obtain the Original Documents <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You must obtain the original Diploma and official Transcripts issued by the educational institution.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Photocopies or Certified copies will not be accepted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nStep 2 \u2013 Have the School Authenticate the Documents before a Notary Public<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A school official must prepare a statement for each document (Diploma and Transcripts) certifying its authenticity.<\/p>\n<p>The statement may be typed on official letterhead and then attached to the original document <u>OR<\/u> handwritten directly on the back of the original document, and should indicate that the document is in fact the original.<\/p>\n<p>An example of acceptable wording is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;This is the original Diploma\/Transcript issued to [Student Name] by [Name of School].&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>[Name of School Official]<br \/>\n<\/em><em>[Tile of School Official]<br \/>\n<\/em><em>[Signature of School Official]<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em>The school official must sign the above certification statement in the presence of a Notary Public, who will also affix their own <em>Jurat Statement<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Notary Public does not certify the educational document itself. Rather, the Notary Public is there to authenticate the signature of the school official.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3 \u2013 Obtain an Apostille<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the school official&#8217;s signature has been notarized, the document must be submitted to the appropriate office of the Secretary of State, for the issuance of an Apostille.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary of State will attach the Apostille to the Original document presented.<\/p>\n<p>The Apostille is the final authentication required before the documents can be submitted for a Declaration of Value, and must remain attached to the original document.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Step 1 \u2013 Obtain the Original Documents You must obtain the original Diploma and official Transcripts issued by the educational institution.
