This requirement, mandated under Italian Decree No. 145 dated October 11, 2024, applies to\u00a0<u>all National visa categories without exception<\/u>.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The following nationals are exempt from fingerprinting: a) nationals of a G7 member state (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States) applying for a study visa; b) military and civilian personnel from G7 and NATO countries assigned to serve at military facilities located on Italian territory; c) individuals applying for a diplomatic visa or a visa for official missions.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">**Please be advised that\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the exemption from fingerprint collection for those holding a diplomatic or service passport who are applying for a diplomatic visa or a mission visa, as well as for military and civilian personnel of NATO member states and the G7 sent to serve in military facilities located in Italian territory, is granted on a\u00a0<u>reciprocal<\/u>\u00a0basis. This is also applicable to their\u00a0<u>immediate<\/u>\u00a0family members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The visa application process for a <strong>Schengen (Short stay \u2013 under 90 days)<\/strong> visa remains unchanged, as Schengen visa applicants must continue to apply <strong>in person<\/strong> and have their fingerprints taken.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that for <strong>U.S. citizens<\/strong> do not need to apply for a Schengen visa for stays in Italy of up to <u>90 days within any 180-day period<\/u> for purposes such as tourism, short-stay study, or business.<\/p>\n<p>Appointments must be scheduled <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\">online<\/a><\/strong> through the designated visa booking system, as email requests for appointments will no longer be accepted or responded to.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants may submit their visa applications up to <strong>six months<\/strong> before their planned departure date, allowing ample time to secure an appointment. It is each applicant\u2019s responsibility to make the necessary arrangements and schedule their appointment date early to accommodate visa processing times and approvals, which can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks (longer in some cases).<\/p>\n<p>We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these updated procedures.<\/p>\n<p>We kindly ask for your understanding as the implementation of these changes will place significant demand on our visa office. While we have already made the necessary changes in our staffing to assist with processing, the increased workload may still result in longer wait times. We appreciate your patience as we work to serve all applicants as efficiently as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nIMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL APPLICANTS \u2013 RETURN ENVELOPES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please be advised that ALL return envelopes provided to this Consulate must be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">self-addressed<\/span>. This is our current address:<\/p>\n<p>Consulate of Italy in Detroit<br \/>\n400 Renaissance Center &#8211; Suite 950<br \/>\nDetroit, MI 48243<\/p>\n<p>As of October 11th, 2017 visa applicants may complete their visa application online directly through a new system called &#8220;E@pplication&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants may complete the request form online, which will then need to be printed out and presented personally to this Consulate on the day of your appointment \u2013 accompanied by all requested supported documentation and to be signed in the presence of the Visa Officer.<\/p>\n<p>The online application system is available in both Italian and English by selecting the following link\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/e-applicationvisa.esteri.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/e-applicationvisa.esteri.it<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0and is also accessible through the following online visa information portal\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/vistoperitalia.esteri.it<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING APPOINTMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Consulate of Italy in Detroit wishes to remind all users that the booking system\u00a0\u201cPrenot@mi\u201d\u00a0is entirely\u00a0FREE OF CHARGE.\u00a0 Users will never be asked to pay any fee in order to book an appointment at the Consulate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We would advise all applicants to beware of\u00a0 <strong>third party agencies and\/or individuals <\/strong>claiming to be able to book an early appointment on your behalf, provided that you pay a fee for their services.<\/p>\n<p>The Consulate wishes to stress that\u00a0<strong>there is no connection or affiliation between the Consulate itself and any such websites, agencies or individuals\u00a0<\/strong>and reserves its right to take action where appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ALL VISA APPLICANTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By law, the Consulate may <strong>only<\/strong> issue visas to individuals resident in the consular jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>The Consular jurisdiction is <strong>Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee<\/strong>. All individuals resident in these states must apply for visas through this office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Students<\/strong> are considered resident at their universities <strong>or<\/strong> their home addresses. If <strong>either one<\/strong> is in our jurisdiction, they may apply here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important notice for Schengen Visa applicants<\/strong>: no visa can be affixed on passports older than 10 years (e.g. in 2016 we cannot accept passports issued before 2006).<\/p>\n<p>Holders of <strong>one of the following documents<\/strong>, issued by the American\u00a0immigration authorities, are eligible to apply for a visa, providing that their documents are valid <strong>at least three months<\/strong> beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen territory:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>U.S. Passport;<\/li>\n<li>Foreign passport and U.S. Permanent Resident Card (formerly Green Card);<\/li>\n<li>Valid International Student visas and valid re-entry (&#8220;travel&#8221;) signature on I-20;<\/li>\n<li>Valid Exchange visitors visas and DS-2019;<\/li>\n<li>Long-term U.S. visas (e.g. L1, L2, H1, H2, R1 etc.);<\/li>\n<li>U.S. Re-entry Permit;<\/li>\n<li>U.S. Refugee Travel Document (Document de Voyage de R\u00e9fugi\u00e9s);<\/li>\n<li>Holders of B1\/B2 visas may only apply for Airport Transit visa;<\/li>\n<li>VISAS will be issued in about 7-15 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For information <strong>not specifically<\/strong> listed on the pages indicated below, please contact the visa office at the following e-mail address:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:visa.detroit@esteri.it\">visa.detroit@esteri.it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Passports <strong>must be valid at least 3-6 months<\/strong> beyond the date of your return to the United States. The signatures must be authenticated by a\u00a0<strong>Notary Public<\/strong>\u00a0if the parents reside in the United States, or by an Italian Embassy\/Consulate if the parents reside abroad;<\/li>\n<li>Birth certificate translated into English and authenticated by the local Italian Embassy\/Consulate in the country of birth, where the birth certificate was issued.
