With the July 17, 2020 Decree of the President of the Republic, the date for the Constitutional Referendum, originally scheduled on March 29th and subsequently postponed, has been set on the “changes to articles 56, 57 and 59 of the Constitution with regards to the number of Parliament representatives” is in agreement with article 138 of the Constitution and has confirmed the legitimacy of the proposed referendum question. The date for the Confirming Popular Referendum is set in Italy for September 20-21, 2020.

In compliance with the Italian Election Laws (Law 459/2001), Italian citizens residing abroad will vote by correspondence.

The voting packet containing the ballots have been mailed by this Consulate to the Italian citizen voters residing abroad (and registered in the Registry of Italians who reside abroad - AIRE), and to voters temporarily abroad. Voters who have not received the voting packet by September 6, 2020, must contact this Consulate in order to verify the reason for the missed delivery and, possibly, request the issuance of a duplicate. The Consulate foresees access to the Consulate at special times close to the deadline date for receipt of the ballots – to be announced on our website – solely for the issuance of duplicate voting packets.

The Italian Nationals residing in this consular jurisdiction, which includes the States of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky, must comply with the instructions provided in the voting packet to complete and promptly return the ballots by mail, in the postage-paid envelope provided, in order to ensure delivery to the Consulate Office no later than 4:00 PM (local time) September 15, 2020.
